AIRMAR Technology Corporation has launched the TriSonic Smart Multisensor, an ultrasonic speed-through-water sensor tailored for recreational boats. By replacing mechanical paddlewheels with solid-state ultrasonic measuring technology, the design eliminates moving parts and common issues related to marine growth. The device integrates speed, depth, water temperature, and boat attitude data over NMEA 2000 networks using adaptive digital processing to maintain calculation accuracy across changing water clarity and speeds.
All signal processing components are housed internally within the sensor unit, removing the need for external junction boxes and enabling direct retrofitting into standard two-inch thru-hull housings. Sensor setup and speed calibration according to heel angles are managed wirelessly via Bluetooth using the mobile CAST application. For catamaran and multihull configurations, the optional TriSonic 2 setup pairs two sensors that communicate continuously to select readings from the unit positioned lowest in the water column.
