Garmin expanded its marine electronics lineup with the GMI 40, a dedicated multifunction display designed to offload primary telemetry from main chartplotters. Fixed in the cockpit or helm station, the unit consolidates key operational metrics—including wind angle and speed, depth, water temperature, heading, and GPS track—enabling crew to keep main helm screens dedicated exclusively to charts, radar, AIS, or sonar feeds.
Serving as a direct successor to the button-controlled GMI 20, the display introduces full touchscreen functionality and customizable panel layouts. To support retrofits on existing boats, Garmin supplies a dedicated adapter plate engineered to fit directly into legacy GMI 20 dash cutouts without requiring fiberglass modifications.
