Vetus: Introduction of the M2HSET hybrid propulsion system for M-Line diesel engines

Vetus has introduced the M2HSET hybrid propulsion system, engineered for its M-Line two-cylinder diesel engines (M2.13 and M2.18). The system integrates a 24-volt permanent-magnet electric motor via a serpentine belt and pulley assembly, allowing operators to switch between electric-only mode for low-speed maneuvering in confined waterways and diesel propulsion for extended cruising.

Designed for both new builds and retrofits, the setup operates without requiring shore power integration by utilizing the rotation of the propeller shaft during diesel operation to drive the electric motor as a generator, supplying up to 30 amps to recharge the battery bank. Control of the dual-mode system is managed through the ELPS2H side-mounted V-CAN unit, with Vetus planning to expand the hybrid lineup to higher-power engine ranges in future releases.

  • Compatible engines: Vetus M-Line two-cylinder (M2.13 and M2.18)
  • Electric motor: 24-volt permanent-magnet electric motor
  • Maximum power output: 2.3 kW
  • Torque: 17 Nm
  • Battery charging current: Up to 30 A
  • Power transmission: Serpentine belt and pulley assembly
  • Control unit: ELPS2H side-mounted V-CAN control lever with neutral safety switch
