Yanmar: Integrated YF12e hybrid-electric propulsion system for mid-sized displacement vessels

Yanmar Marine International has introduced the YF12e Hybrid, a purpose-built marine hybrid propulsion system engineered to combine diesel and electric power within a single integrated architecture. Developed primarily for inland waterway vessels and 40-to-50-foot displacement boats, the system enables zero-emission, near-silent electric propulsion in EV mode alongside power generation and cruising capability via the diesel propulsion engine.

The new unit expands the manufacturer’s lineup of sustainable marine power solutions, joining its HVO-compatible diesel engines and electric saildrive range. By integrating standard mechanical propulsion with electrical power generation and battery charging into a unified factory package, the system eliminates third-party integration complexity for builders and vessel operators.

  • Application: Inland waterway vessels and 40–50 ft displacement boats
  • Operating modes: Pure EV (zero-emission) and hybrid power generation/cruising
  • System integration: Combined Yanmar engine and electric drive system
